I keep the grey 75% open and the black 3.766565% open. Then 4 hours before it is time to go, I close the grey by 47% and open the black by .0008%. When it is time to go, I open both of them then run around the RV singing Dixie for 6 laps. After that, I have perfectly clean black and grey tanks and never use any chemicals.... ever.
I see you have a 36 footer. I have a 40 footer. Do you think I could get by with 5 laps? If I did 6 I'd probably need a nap. Maybe I could get the wife to run'em, just a thought.
Well, by my estimate, I probably average 4.5 mph while running around the rig considering slowing down some for corners and cover the 534' of those 6 laps in roughly 81 seconds. Since slides would be in, your 4 laps on the 40' rig would be about 484' total so as long as you average about 4.07 mph, you should be good. - RollnhomeExplorer

I encountered large slugs, in Mississippi, in the campground connector.
Didn't even connect the hose, which we do to speed up emptying the next day when we leave, if just staying for the night.
Some have encountered sewer flies etc.
If in doubt I won't. Might be the best idea not too. - OhhWellExplorerI keep the grey 75% open and the black 3.766565% open. - JimM68ExplorerI generally leave both closed until I am ready to dump.
Sometimes this results in the DW being ankle deep in gray water in the shower, this is not a good thing and is NOT recommended. - JimM68Explorer

RVing is much like sailing. Ask 5 of your fellow sailors the same question and you'll get 7 different answers.
we really need a "like" button. - jsmartExplorerHave a 2002 Itasca Sunrise 32V, we keep both black and grey closed while we are camping, use the grey tank to help flush out the sewer hose after dumping the black tank. We also have black tank rinse capacity so we can flush out the black tank after dumping it. Have had to dump the grey tank part way through a long camping trip (especially when we have the grandkids, they love the RV shower).
- paulcardozaExplorerGray open.
Black closed.
Close gray before dumping the black to get some hose flush water ready. - BobandShazExplorer

Leaving it open slowly collects food ,soap etc. on the bottom of the tank, also closing it builds up a good charge of gray to flush the hoses after dumping the black.
