I know there are some pulling with similar trucks and can possibly answer your question. Probably varies per state though.

I would think that your truck is just a truck for personal use. It is not an RV, the fifth wheel is an RV. I'm not sure what you are wanting to do.

just did that thanks I thought it was supposed to be in the heavy duty trucks section. you live and learn :o oh and the state i'm in is califorina moving to south Dakota

that's the way I see it my truck is for personal use and not an RV. but I heard people tell me to register it as an rv or what they call a housecar:h

There are other sources with a google search. Some you tube videos of the conversions.

What you can do, how you can register, will vary with each state. Some states don't even have a classification of RV or housecar. In Oklahoma my motorhome is a "passenger car" but this state would not let me register a tractor truck in that category.

Most likely you will be registering as a truck or tractor, and whether or not that can be non-commercial and non-DOT is going to depend on the state.

Dig into the South Dakota vehicle registration code.

Since you plan on registering in SD, I suggest that you contact Alternative Resources. They can help you with all your needs. Lot's of RV'ers use their services.

Class 8, not A

Head on over to the HDT {Heavy Duty Truck} forum and do some reading.

Lots of us running class 8 trucks towing fivers. Many of them, like ours, are registered as Motor Homes.

in calif even a "TOW truck" can be Personal "Not For Hire"
lot of car clubs have one or two members who own tow trucks

Here your truck is just a truck..either commercial OR Non commercial
