I have a 2007, 36 foot Adventure W22, Chevy workhorse.I get a lot of bouncing around and rough, sloppy riding. I've been told I need to replace my shocks, staring with the rear. I have 37000 miles on it.I was wondering if there are any comments on brand names? Are Belsteins the best or Koni? are they about the same as far as a better ride.After 300 miles I'm fairly tired of dealing with the cabinets sounding like they are coming off the walls, especially in California (where I live) bad roads.I want to replace them but I don't want to make a mistake after spending $300 or $400. Koni's are top shelf....but be sitting down when you pay the bill....You havent seen sticker shock before

Bill, I can't say what is better between Bilsteins and Koni's because I never owned Koni's! I did have 4 new Bilsteins installed on my 36' Adventurer last fall and the porpoising and the side to side roll stopped. When I come off a driveway now the coach doesn't rock side to side as I'm going down the road and it doesn't bounce front to back when going over a overpass at highway speeds. Check your VIN # when you change shocks (this info is in our black Winnebago packet or on the drivers door). Winnebago changes there chassis on Adventurers every 4 years so you will want to order the right shocks. My Winnebago is licensed as a 04, but my chassis is a 03, if I would have ordered shocks for a 04 they would not have fit. Good Luck

Let's start off with $300-$400 is not enough to buy four shocks, either Bilstein's or Konis. I like the Konis on the front of my WH chassis because they are not gas charged so they absorb the small road seams rather than pass them on through the steering column. I still have Bilsteins on the rear of my coach and they keep the side sway down but I also attribute much of that to my front and rear air bags, which I adjust to the road conditions as I drive.

As I have posted before, I found FSD's to be a waste of money. I have had OEM Bilsteins, Monroes, Koni's and now I am back to Monroes. My F53 when loaded for travel is barely over 15K, do not know how it would handle if heavier. I am going to try the new version of Bilstein's for my coach next. Nothing like testing shocks for something to do.:R

I put Bilsteins on our Allegro and thought I had put solid rods on it.It road sooooooooo rough. I went to Monroes and was much happier.

No advice but I will be keeping an eye on this thread. Whatever coach we end up buying I want to upgrade the shocks first thing. I used to get car sick from the roll and sway in our old Southwind. Looking back it probably wasn't loaded heavy enough either. Just another excuse to go shopping and pack it full!

We just put Koni's on our 35' Itasca. I'm wondering why I waited so long. The rolling is amazingly less and the effect of passing big rigs is barely noticeable. I also no longer get the jarring from highway expansion joints.

It was well worth every penny IMHO. The only downside is that it was quite a few pennies.

We put Koni's on our 35' GeorgieBoy. The ride is incredible--much better
than the original equipment. As a friend of mine used to say, "it only costs
10% more to go first class".

We put Koni's al the way around in 2010 and haven't regeted it. The ride is much better and no porposing on bouncy roads or "diving" coming out of low driveways. Our's is a 2006 W24 Workhorse 38' Newmar loaded for full-timing. Your's might differ

You will receive a wide range of answers (and SHOULD).

Even on the same chassis, a shock that performs splendidly on a coach with lightly loaded axle will likely give a mushy ride if another 1,500 pounds is added. And one that performs splendidly on a coach with axles loaded to GAWR will ride rough on a lightly loaded one.

Just reflect back on the same issue in your car or pickup. Changing weight significantly really changes ride and handling. Sometimes for the better (loaded 1 ton truck vs empty), sometimes for the worse (car loaded to capacity vs empty).

The more information you post about what chassis and how it is loaded, the more accurate (for your needs) will be the answer.
