class C heater while driving question

I am a grand dad with way to many presents to fit in the car to go 200 miles to the grand kids house. The weather is not to bad so I am thinking of getting the rv out for the run. My question is this if I use the coach heater do I need to turn on the gen to run it or does it run off of the battery?????

  • Thanks for all the replies. It is early for spring fever but with the nice weather I think I have it. Hoping for no snow between here and there. Happy camping everyone!
  • If you do run the coach furnace be sure that you turn it off before pulling up to a gas pump to fill up the gas tank.

Ditto the above comment. Unless it's ridiculously cold (like below zero F.) I never need to run the furnace.

However, I do partly (depending out side temperature) open the rearmost roof vent which is the washroom on my unit, and set the heater to dashboard only with the center vents pointed straight back between the seats and the two outer vents just barely poem, fan on second highest and heat nearly full hot. The vent moves most of the heat down the back and keeps the folks up front comfy.

If it's 25 F. outside I can keep all of the interior above 60 F. without any troubleoing it this way.

  • You should be OK the cabin heater runs on propane and the fan on 12v from the cabin battery, your vehicle generator that charges the starting battery should also be able to handle the cabin heater fan with no problem.

Go visit the kids and grand kids, you will be OK and warm.

  • I have been running the propane furnace while driving. No problems ...
  • it runs off the coach battery and it draws a bunch of power ,close the night drapes behind the drivers seat and be on your way. have a safe trip.
