Class C with excessive heat on floor..help!

On our 2007 Winnebago Aspect there is an uncomfortable amount of heat coming from the exhaust pipes under the floor. The dog house is toasty, but the floor gets pretty hot on the passengers side. Wife complained that her feet would get hot. Started putting her feet on the Camping World campground directory. The drivers side was not bad at all.

I tried removing the carpeting in the cab area to install insulating material but the carpeting in our unit is glued down very tight. Figured it would pretty much destroy the carpet if I pulled it out.

Plan B was to get some of the Reflectix Radiant Barrier cut it to fit under the Weathertek floor mates and back under the seat on each side. Made a lot of difference. Would like to put insulation under the carpet but will have to figure out how to remove it first.

Our unit has the heat shields. Think they are installed by Winnebago. Must be really hot in a unit without the heat shields.

Thanks for all the help! Shout out to Navegator as I think you may have hit the problem. We recently had it into a shop to recharge the a/c and when we got it back, I remember thinking that the housing cover looked a bit off. I will check this right away and report back.

@Sljkansas: that radiant barrier looks great..I'm going to get a roll and install. Thanks much for the suggestion and link.

What has probably happened is that the dog house was removed to do some work and re-installed wrong, you need to release the four latches the ones on the floor you open the butterfly and twist, the ones on top are a simple latch.

Once you have the cover loose, lift all the carpet around the dog house so that the seal can seat properly, make sure that it seats on both sides and the floor that there is nothing under that seal, now hook the floor lathes and then push the dog house towards the front and secure the latches, this should keep the heat where it belongs outside.

We just had work done on our ford C and the mechanic did not install the dog house correct, I re-installed the the cover and normal temps in the cabin.

My old class C had the same problem, I pulled the carpet up and installed something like this insulation. Made a world of difference.

Also made a blanket rap for the dog house.

Heat shields are not what caused the problems, wrapping the exhaust pipes/catalytic converters in heat blocking wraps did.

A heat shield is a piece of metal suspended between the heat producer and the floor of the cab. It does not actually touch the piping. The pipe gets just as much cooling air flow as ever, so its temperature does not increase any. The heat shield just blocks the upward migration of the heat.

Maybe extra carpet on the floor would help. Also check for hot air leaking through the doghouse cover - might have been left loose.

It has been reported in this forum that messing with heat shields can contain the heat and warp/distort the exhaust manifolds.
