Clear coat beginning to peel

I have the same issue on my 2004 Newmar Dutchstar. I called Newmar, described the areas needing work, and was given a ballpark quote of $1400 to fix. I plan on passing through Indiana this year or next year and having mine done at the factory.

i just had the bottom 1/3 of my 1999 Dutch Star redone for a mere $ 2,500.

It was a bunch, but it looks brand new now.

A couple of years ago, I had the upper radius and 1/2 of the front cap painted to match and clear coated plus hail damage on the Jeep hood repaired and painted for $800. All this was done in Mexico

My 06 Holiday Rambler Endeavor is also peeling down the upper radius and the end and front cap are just starting to show clear coat lifting. I checked with one RV body shop and they said to do both sides and both caps about $3200. That is a lot of money but it is a big job, sanding, painting and clear coating.

I am going to check with a couple other shops and see if it can be done cheaper. I just don't have the experience, talent or time to tackle the job myself.

Common problem on MOHO's and full paint fifth wheels. Sand it, mask for at least 3 to 4 feet below, shoot it with two coats of base and 4 coats of clear 10 minutes apart. Make your first coat of clear a little lighter. Practice if you must on another surface. If you screw up and cause a run. LEAVE IT. You won't notice it after a week. Get the paint and the Spray Max 2K from an autobody supply shop. That way they will be compatible. DON'T sand after. You probably won't have to buff it out. Just wait a month or two and give a good polish then wax. Really not that hard or that much work. Total cost for a 40 foot unit under a 100 bucks...and your time. :)

My front cap started peeling when only 3 years old. I made some repairs, but it did not last long. Then the side radius started peeling. I got a estimate from a shop in California that wanted $2000 for a do over.

I was at Winnebago in Forest City in May of 2014 for some repairs. While there, I went over to the paint shop that does the painting for Winnebago. Had a nice chat with the manager and gently expressed my disappointment on the paint job they had done. He agreed to not only redo the front cap and side radius, but he repainted two compartment doors and some areas on the rear.

All of this for FREE....

Monaco is notorious for this. My front and rear caps started to flake first. I sanded and repainted them myself because it was above the marker lights and you couldn't really see it well enough to know that I did it at home. Then the sides started to get small blisters. I lightly sanded those and used the two part clear in a rattle can described above.

After doing all of this over about 2-3 years, it just got worse. The moral of the story....have the entire roof line (all four sides) sanded and professionally painted and clear coated and be done. My coach had dark brown on the front cap, tan on the rear and some green that rolled up over the top from the sides. To save money and to keep from trying to fade the new paint into the old, I created a natural break at the corner of the windshield and had them paint the entire roof line tan, the color I had on the lower part of the coach. This made for a cooler roof and less chance that a dark colored paint would go bad again. The cost was $3000.00. That's a fair amount of money, but the coach looked like new again and I wish I hadn't wasted all that time doing the initial band aid repairs.

I have the same problem but it's compounded by the fact that the clear coat that's peeling is over the white tiger mural on the back. I was planning on asking my detailing guy what to do with it. His shop is right next door to the yard where I store it.`
