- doxiemom11Explorer IIThis mistake may be covered under your comprehensive coverage on your insurance policy. Check with your insurance company. It was not intentional, so may be covered(damage that results).

I put 1 cup of clorox bleach in diesel tank (90gal) by mistake! The fuel hole is right next to the water fill,What should I do?
1 cup of bleach in around ninty gallons will most likely not cause a problem at all - jerem0621Explorer IIDrain the tank...
Plain and simple... - olfarmerExplorer III believe bleach is heavier than diesel fuel. If so, it should go to the bottom of the tank. Hopefully the tank has a low point drain plug. If it does you should be able to drain the bleach out of that drain. The bleach should not mix with fuel so it should come out first. Catch the bleach in a container and compare it with the amount you put in. If you get the same amount you put in I would not worry about it, if it is less you still have a problem. I would not start the engine until the bleach is out of the tank.
- 427435ExplorerLet's see know. About $400 of fuel vs replacing an injection pump and injectors. And if you choose to not drain and clean the fuel tank, you'll also be wondering when the injection system is going to******out as you head out on your next trip.
Mistakes happen. Don't risk making it a really big mistake. - Born_To_TravelExplorerAs for the corrosion problem,I am not that worried about the tank.. It is probably .125 thick and can take some abuse.. I am worried about the fuel sending unit that is made from very thin metal. I don't know if it has an in tank electric fuel pump, but I guess it is possible.. And if you get the fuel out, don't try to flush it with water.. You will be trading one problem for another.. Flush tank with clean diesel fuel and drain from the tank..

- FIRE_UPExplorerWell Gang,
Just wondering here. Many of you mentioned "rusting" and or corroding inside the diesel tank due to this tiny amount of bleach that has by mistake, been introduced to HOW MANY GALLONS OF DIESEL?
Well, correct me if I'm wrong but, that tank has diesel "Oil" in it. Now, the tank is also basically sealed, other than when the caps are removed to fuel the tank, correct? So, the infiltration of air, to "aid" in the corrosion or rust, should be seriously limited, correct?
Or, are all of you saying that, that cup of bleach, which, had to have been somewhat "dispersed" as it hit the level of the fuel, would "rust" or, corrode that tank, right through the diesel fuel which, is sitting against the interior sides of the tank?
Now I certainly am no expert here. In fact, far from it. And, I'm not chemical engineer. So I have no idea what has any effect on what, in given conditions other than, salt water on uncoated steel or aluminum. But inside a diesel fuel tank, one cup of bleach, with who knows how much fuel in it, drain the tank, lines, filters, wow.
