Coach Road Noise

I'd like to hear from those on the forum who have owned both DP's and gas coaches and how much difference their is in noise level while on the road. Certainly makes sense that having a rear engine would be quieter, but are gas engines really annoying...particularly when going uphill under load?
Thanks,
Bill
  • I think it will partially depend on what gas coach you have vs the diesel. We can hear dishes rattle, we can hold a conversation without raising our voices. We have a gas coach - F53 chassis with the V-10 engine. Now if climbing steep inclines, the motor is noisy, but normal driving, it is quiet. We have very few rattles and shakes as we drive unless on a rough road.
  • Quite enough to hear dishes rattling, DW has had to get up and adjust the toilet room mini-blind that was squeaking and move the shower wand that was banging.

Some wind noise at higher speed on windy days. Tire noise depending on road condition,

Overall, a very pleasant diving experience though one can hear the Cat rumbling a bit pulling hills but sort of like background noise.
  • Had class c with ford 460 in front and Class a with Chevy 454 in front and now Cummins in rear. Cummins is very quiet. Hard to hear sometimes. Ride is much nicer too, and easier to handle in the wind.

With the gassers it was hard to have a conversation sometimes. I even added some sound proofing around the motor on the Chevy.
