Coachmen Mirada 35BH UVW and towing capacity

We hsve made the decision to buy a 2014 Coachmen Mirada 35BH. It is on a Ford chassis with the V10 Triton engine. The GVWR of the coach is 22,000 pounds and the GCWR is 26,000 pounds with a 5k hitch. I have two questions for the group:
1) I believe this tells me that the the total weight of the TOAD with fuel and anything inside it can only be 4,000 pounds. We wsnt to purchase a Honda CR-V that weighs 4,503 pounds. So, even though the hitch will handle 5K it seems like we might be s little over on the GCWR. The dealer has said the coach is rated to tow 5,000 pounds. Please let me know your thoughts.
2)I know Coachmen weighs each unit at the factory, but how can I find out the approximate Unloaded Vehicle Weight now so I can determine the weight allowance for fuel, csrgo, etc.
Thank you in advance for your help.
  • what I find interesting as they give a weight rating of 26,000 lbs. or not requiring special licensing in lots of states that have 26,001 as the break point. I couldn't find such a DP years back when I was looking.

  • P.S. We tow a 2004 chevy Malibu maxx. 4000 lbs. no problems. don't even know its back there.
  • Curb weight is the toad with nothing but antifreeze, motor oil, and a full tank of fuel. Anything else you put in the tow will raise the weight to above the curb weight. I carry several items in my toad that raise its weight to higher than curb weight. It would be easy to raise the weight of the toad to over 500 lbs above curb weight, which could raise it to over 4000 lbs total weight! That along with the fact that many load their coaches right up to the maximum GVWR when ready to travel can easly bring one right up to their GCWR. Generally speaking, one could say, if all the numbers are right, the OP could easly tow the vehicle in question. But if he overloads anything, he could easily be over the GCWR!!! That is not theory, its fact, and it can get one in all kinds of trouble going down the road.

no, you are limited to 4,000 lbs. only if you load the motorhome up to it's GVWR. you can borrow some of that weight to use on your toad.
other issues may be involved however.

You have every responsibility to tow what your hitch and unit are rated based on the weights. Anything otherwise is plain foolish. Now whether it will tow the CRV or not, I think it will. Based on what I can find the CRV does not weigh 4500# as the OP stated but 3500# which puts it in the towable range. Those ratings aren’t made up or theory or overkill, they are real numbers.

Where are you getting that weight of the CRV? At the heaviest model the curb weight is only 3500 lbs.

    Curb Weight (lbs, 2WD/AWD) 3305 / 3426 3365 / 3490 3408 / 3529
    3424 / 3545 (EX-L w/RES)
    3424 / 3545 (EX-L w/Navi)
