Consignment

I am ending my rv experience and need some advice. I I was wondering if I should sell it to or sell it on consignment to either Lazy Days in Tampa or PPL in Houston. I know that some people have gone through this process and was wondering if one place is better than the other. Also what should my expectations be. Thank you in advance. I am currently in Georgia.
  • I've heard nothing but good reviews of PPL. Can't say the same for Lazy Days.

A friend just sold her 5th wheel through consignment at a local dealer. She said it was pain free and she was glad she didn't have to deal with people coming to look at it if she tried to sell it. It took about a year to sell it.

Make sure you get everything in writing, their commision and marketing plan. How are they going to sell it...ads on cable, craigslist, RV Trader ...etc. Or do they plan to just let it sit on their lot.
  • PPL will sell it for you. Lazy Days will sell their own first, then if they want to, may show yours......PPL is the only way to go.
  • All depends on if you want to be a part of the selling process in order to avoid paying the cut back to the consignment sale. They have good exposure, but you'll get exposure on craigslist too.

Buyers will come in all walks of life. This will include everyone from hagglers, low-ballers, odd folks, nice folks, and serious buyers.

For me I like to save the bucks and sell it myself. But if you want to avoid the process and don't like to be haggled, give the consignment place your BOTTOM price and say "don't call me with haggle prices", and they'll respect it.
  • I just bought a consignment coach and can say their certainly not as aggressive as they are on their floor coaches. They really have nothing invested so they aren't really as aggressive in moving it.
I was looking at boats one time and asked what are those across the street. "oh you don't want to look at those their not near the quality of these" was the reply I got. I later found they were their consignment boats.
In a lot (I'm sure not all)of places they really don't show the consignment unless specifically asked and will try to steer people to their units their paying $$$$ out on every month.
    Just my limited experience.
  • I have sold two dps through ppl. each sold within ten days for the agreed price. the check arrived promptly and there were no after sale issues. i would use ppl rather than the usual six months of bs, missed appointments, and lookie loos.
  • Depending on where you are financially with the RV selling to Lazy Days is the quickest and easiest. We sold them our 08 HR Vacationer at the beginning of the year. The price was wholesale at best but I had purchased the vehicle at 36% back of MSRP including T&L. I arranged the deal over the phone, drove it down from East Tennessee and left with a check 30 minutes later. The check would have been waiting for me but I showed up a day early. They have since wholesaled the RV to a smaller dealer.
The part of selling your RV you have to balance is dealing with the "potential buyers" and all the headaches that go with it. You must be prepared to spend a lot of time and listen to a lot of bull if you sell it yourself. You could also spend a year trying to sell the RV and each month it depreciates a little more, you end up dropping the price, and if you are still making a payment you must consider that a loss against the additional $10,000 to $50,000, depending on the RV price range, you may make by handling the sale.

  • We just bought our rv from Palm rv and marine in Fort Myers, fl. They are a consignment dealer. They have 5 class A right now that have deal pending. I dealt with Jason Jones as the sales man and Jarrod Bishop as my financial person. The real shocker was getting a call from the owner and being told if I had any problems to call and ask for Tom the owner. He has a great staff and very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend them.
