converter

I have a 2007 Fleetwood Terra and the converter that charges the house batteries is only putting out12.6 VDC. Is there any thing that I can do other than replacing it?
  • Are you reading voltage AT the converter WITH the battery disconnected? I suspect you are actually reading only the battery and the converter is toast. With the batter connected you will read it's 12.6 (if fully charged) even if the converter is putting out nothing.
    Good luck / Skip
  • My first thought is your reading the actually battery voltage at the terminals of the converter. Disconnect the batteries and check it again.
  • On the other hand, check right at the output terminals of the converter to see if you get 12.6 there. It could quite likely be a loose connection in the wiring to the battery.

I had mine plugged in to shore power and thought everything was OK. We would park for a couple of days plugged in, then drive for a few hours. Finally we stopped for three days and I watched the idiot light and the battery power get lower and lower while plugged in. When I put my meter on the output terminals it was putting out full voltage. I found the white neutral wire on the converter terminals was loose. Tightened it up, and it worked fine.
  • Check the fuses on the converter to see if they are blown. Otherwise, it's probably replacement time.
