Converter

My lights are very dim almost to the point of being completely off after 12 hours while on shorepower. Checked my house batteries and they are all charged up but havent checked the coverter because it is hard to get to . Starting the motorhome engine the lights will get bright almost instantly but while on shorepower they will not charge up. I am thinking its probably the converter but not really sure? Help

  • Received the new converter today and installed right away. Everything is working again like it's supposed to. Hopefully this Power max 75 will last longer than the intellipower 9200 series. Thanks for all your advice
  • Rechecked the house batteries and they are discharged . Also ordered a new converter which should be here soon. Hopefully that will take care of the problem. Not sure why they tested charged the first time and BTW I know my house batteries and my chassis batteries
    Thanks

this doesn't make since, interior lights are poweredby the house batteries and converter

if house batteries are charged converter must be good, and you have a bad connection or 12vdc fuse

are you sure you checked the house batteries, maybe you checked the engine batteries

try flipping the battery disconnect (sometimes called the salesman switch) on and off several times, might be a dirty connection
  • I have a 2012 Swift RB185 and had same problem. No charging. Ordered part and took pictures of wiring mess and when it came to replacing wires to the 12 volt wiring, wires are black and white, where as from the converter is colored wires with wire nuts on each. My new converter had same colore wires and what I did was cut about 3 inches of red green etc and left wire nuts on until I was ready to connect. PS take pictures of old wiring may help. If I am wrong, please correct me. Not exactly a guru of RVs.
  • Classic signs of converter problem .. might also be a failed resettable circuit breaker http://www.amazon.com/420843-1-Resettable-Circuit-Breaker-without/dp/B002IV8ANS/ref=sr_1_9?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1457635550&sr=1-9&keywords=resettable+circuit+breaker which are usually located near battery.

Check the voltage at the battery with the rig plugged in 13.6+? If not then test whether the resettable circuit breaker is OK - if that checks out then you either have line issue or converter isn't working properly. Next step - get access to converter and check fuses - then check voltage (access may not be convenient but your going to have to access to replace anyway).
