Traveling to Creede going west from I-25. Taking hwy 160 then 149 into Creede. Will be in my 44ft DP towing my jeep liberty. Just curious what 160 and 149 is like.
Havasu, I talked to the lady Friday afternoon and she told me the air quality was real bad, so I cancellled my reservation. She told me I could use my deposit money for another date. We plan on going in August, so I was ok with it. I don't blame you for being upset though. It's too bad people are so money hungry. That kind of stuff gets around and could have an affect on their business at some point. I cancelled my reservation at Cedar Rail RV park in Raton, NM for tonight this morning and they refunded my deposit even after I told them I didn't expect it because of such late notice. Guess their not hurting for money like some of the others. I will definitely make sure I stay there when I head that way in August.
Did you get the same problems with Mountain View RV Resort in Creede, CO as I did when it came to refunding the deposit?
They refused to refund my nearly $400 deposit claiming that their policy was no refunds within 60 days of the date of booking. This was never explained to me over the phone and the lady I spoke to said it was on their website - but I made my booking on the phone, not on the website!
Anyway, I am now forced to take further action against them to recover the money - I was so looking forward to visiting, but after this fiasco, no way!
I couldn't even get there as Hwy 160 is closed at the pass, traffic on 149 has to wait for an escort and the smoke is constant - and no-one knows the health effects of breathing in that smoke as it will be in the air constantly - let alone how impregnated the fabric of the RV is going to get when in it for any length of time.
I feel sorry for them as a business - but their attitude towards their customers leaves a lot to be desired.
Best of luck to you. Creede is on pre-evac notice, mainly because of limited access in and out, as of 11 AM mountain time this morning. Total acreage for the complex is now >70,000 acres. Please pray for an early monsoon.
I'm still in South Fork, my home is on the east side of town, just outside the evacuation area. Here's a view you never want to see from your front deck.
This morning things are looking a bit better for South Fork itself, but not so good north of South Fork along 149. But this thing is so huge its got tentacles going out in multiple directions and the afternoon winds determine where it goes.
Another good source of information. Hinsdale County. 149 still closed from South Fork to Creede. Open from Lake City to Creede, although fire is heading toward Creede.
Apologies for all the updates, but here is a good alternative for avoiding Wolf Creek Pass: just east of downtown Pagosa Springs turn south on US 84 to Chama, NM (45 miles), then head NE on 17 over Cumbres Pass to Antonito, CO, about another 45 miles. At that point you can go north on US 285 back up to Hwy 160 in Alamosa. Cumbres Pass is a good highway. Just did it in a motor coach after taking the train from Chama.
