Nope you'll have to pop it out of cruise control in hilly areas. The cruise control will hold onto nearly every MPH for dear life-and run up the revs to do the job if necessary.
Same thing going downhill with the tow haul mode on. A few taps on the brakes on downhill stretch and kaboom-4700 RPM. Useful if you need it, but if it is a brief downhill stretch you don't.
All in all, the powertrain works well. There is just time for automation and other times for manual control.
One thing that might help (I personally like to keep engine stock), is to research performance chips. Evidently some will go into an open loop scenario under hard throttle, have more timing advance, and can develop a bit more torque than stock. This could reduce the downshifting.
