- John_WayneExplorer IIWhat year earlier ones had a recall where they put in a fuse to the brake light switch to keep it from burning when the switch leaked. This switch cut the cruise control off when brake was used. Could be speed controller on rear axle also. Could be pinched wire in steering column.
- 7cranewayExplorer2013tiffen ford chassie was working fine..kicked off on the way home last winter ..now ..wont work..Ithink i can fix it my self need to be pointed in the right direction...hate to take to a dealer
- robbiesgramExplorerCheck the switch itself, they do fail. Granted my 2004 Ford Expedition is NOT an RV, but the shop found the cruise control switch had failed when the cc in the SUV would no longer engage. Took them longer to find the problem than it did to fix it. I was hoping it was a fuse, but didn't get lucky this time.

when that same thing happened on our 2000 Ford F53 chassis I found the connecting vacuum hose had come loose. reconnected it with a new clamp and all was well. 7craneway wrote:

This will be a FORD fix and not a RV dealer fix. Ford owns the complete cruise system. Doug- lryrob9301ExplorerThe first thing to check is your brake light bulbs. If either bulb is burned out/ not working the cruise control will not function.

This. In old Chryslers, if the brake light bulbs were burned out, the dome light would come on when you stepped on the brake. - rockhillmanorExplorer

REAL common problem with Ford. Had mine in for problems and the service guy went right for taking off the steering wheel. They have a problem with the wires pinching and breaking in the steering column. You'd think they could have thought of a better place to put wires.
BTW: also watch your tow mode light if it's in the gear shift lever. Cause all of that is intertwined with the wires in the steering column. I know what it like to be doing 70 and have that drop into tow mode. Because that is also intertwined with the torque converter in the steering column. :R - krivanjExplorerIs your check engine wrench icon lit up in the dash? IF so, the cruise control won't work.
