Cummins 24 valve engine

be sure to change the fuel filter before you change the turbo.... I "bought" a turbo for my DP in Georgia...1500 later they were changing the fuel filter....and refunding the turbo $.... Fuel filter $17.00

It's actually the reason why I got the truck so cheap. The previous owner did not want to spend $6,000.00 in labor to fix a hole in the oil pan. I did it in the driveway for under $300.00 one weekend.

What it means to me when I see pricing like that is that the mechanic does not want to do the job, find another that does.

A few years ago my 98 5.9 had a cracked block (famous 53 block) and had a Cummins shop install a rebuilt 5.9 and the total bill was 19,000. Be careful of rebuilt engine that don't come from Cummins as Cummins made a design change in the blocks and never use any of the older blocks for rebuilds.

I can give you the phone number of the company we buy our turbos and injectors from. They are an aftermarket company that sells reman and new. If you want that, pm me.
Or you can call a cummins dealer. Either way it will be best to have the engine serial number. You might find it on the valve cover or a tag on the passenger side near front cover( rear of motor home). It is an 8 digit number, no letters. Or maybe you can find it in some paperwork.

Cummins knows all about their engines. They have repair and maintenance facilities in key cities. Look up the nearest and get a quote for fixing it and then you can decide if you want an indenpendent shop or Cummins to fix it. Be sure to get a warranty on the repair work.

You need to find a knowledgable mechanic. Google is your friend right now. Enter diesel repair shop Oregon (or wherever you are). You'll find a lot of very good independents.

I tried researching turbo prices but I'm not sure how. I guess if I knew what the turbo was called or part number or size? all I know is that's its a 24 valve diesel cummins with a turbo.

I have 148k on my coach now. I have friends with over 300k and they are still running strong. I have looked at a few Prevost with well over 250k too. Depends on where you are looking. I was talking with a Foretravel owner who had 476k on his the other day.
