cummins 6b5.9 alternator failures
My 93 Winnie Vectra on a Spartan chassis with Cummins 5.9 is about to get its 3rd or 4th alternator in 70 kmiles. It had already failed when we bought the rig and the shop that replaced it had to cut...

mine does have a fan
it is 130 amps NOT 66 amps
and it was installed in May 2012
there are NO interference issues with the idler
it appears something on the OPs is not installed correctly
maybe the wrong idler or the wrong alternator brackets
i have pictures of the alternator someplace in one of my backup files, but i don't think there are any pictures of it on the engine
i don't raise the BED much to look at the top of the engine
but IIRC looking down from the top facing the rear of the coach, the alternator sticks out to the right side, the idler is almost directly vertically inline with the water pump, but is above the alternator, and pushes down on the belt only slightly
the belt does NOT wrap around the idler,
i will try to find a picture
taking a second look at the posted pictures
the positioning is similar, but mine must have different alternator brackets that hold it further away from the idler and water pump
it will take some digging to find the engine build #
i have the tag, but it is 'filed' away as it is NO longer on the engine
i have rebuild receipts somewhere with the number on them
you might need a different belt, if you change the alternator brackets
