Cummins 8.3 Air Compressor Maintenance

My 1995 Cummins 8.3 manual calls for periodic maintenance of the air compressor intake and discharge requiring some dis-assembly. As I have seen no mention of this air compressor activity on the RV forums I visit, I wonder - how important are these air compressor inspections. Is anyone doing them?
  • Don,

Only maintenance I am aware if is to keep its intake air filter clean.

Since the vast majority of DP air compressors use the engine intake manifold (therefore using the main engine air filter, boosted by turbo and cooled by CAC) there is no additional maintenance needed.

Now, if servicing the air dryer shows a lot of oil, yes, the compressor needs to be looked at.

The air dryer is the primary service item on your air system.
