  • Sounds like it will still be used in the rv line, sort of like a model name under the Cummins brand.

Maybe so but it article says "Onan brands will be retired and the Onan name synonymous with mobile gensets, will be repositioned as a generator product line under the newly unified Cummins brand in the RV market."
  • I love Corp speak...

The brand changing will not affect product or service offerings, but will help us to continue on our promise of delivering dependability across the globe.

Not complaining...my 4000 has given many years of trouble free service.

Just saying Corp "speak" always gets me thinking. And they did state "promise".

Sure hope when they said "promise", they didn't have their fingers crossed behind their back.
  • Seems like the only difference is instead of being called Onan they will be called Cummins.
    No biggie.
  • IMO they have really cheapened the line already. There smaller gennys will be SPLASH oiled, no filter, no oil pump. Just like the cheaper generators of the world
  • The price will go up now to pay for all the brain power that comes up with these ideas. Cummins has always been a brand to be recognized. Onan as well. Calling it Cummins will make it better?

If I'm not mistaken, their 4K and smaller gensets are currently splash lubricated only, and have always been that way. I know my 4KW set made in 2005 isn't pressure oiled.
  • It's kind of like the Toyota / Scion discontinuation. Scion nameplate was dropped but is still built by Toyota, just using their nameplate now.
Onan nameplate will be dropped but is still built by Cummins and using their nameplate. Hopefully nothing will change
  • Right
Doing away with the brand name

    I think rebranding
Would mean buying something mfg by somebody else them putting your name on it

Who actually makes the things anyway with the Diesel engine being a Kubota and not a clue for the generator itself. Anybody know?
