- bluwtr49Explorer IIYep, bought the first one (40') at 70, bought the current one at 73 and at 75 still enjoying long summer 5 month trips.
Check back in 5-7 years but expect to still be on the road. - BigSkyBobExplorerComing up on 79 and still do 300 - 400 miles a day no problem. I just installed a front watts link and rear trailing arm X-bars under my rig myself and do all my own maintenance. Just got a new hip but still looking forward to heading south in October. I say get the rig and enjoy the ride, life is really short.
- IvylogExplorer IIIMy role model is a couple that were 84 years old when they bought a new Beaver motorhome. He drove it from South Carolina to Oregon in three days to attend a rally. She was limping because of breaking a leg snow skiing the previous winter.
I hope to use my rig for another 13 years and I still do multiple 600+ mile days when necessary at 72. Maybe new knees would let me snow ski again. - GoldencrazyExplorerI think as you age and slow life down a bit an RV can be a great choice. Travel fewer miles per day with longer stays. I followed a blog of a guy who travelled across the country doing 50 miles a day. Every few days he would not move. Coast to coast in a month and very easy. He never noticed the travel other than some neat scenery. We are woking to go less miles per day as i am 75. It used to be 600 and now 350. Feels good but not in our nature. It used to be two days WI to Florida, now three and have a route for 4.
- hilldudeExplorerBought my 31 ft 04 motor home last year at 75,if I dont feel safe driving on long trips will do local.
- darsben1ExplorerMY neighbor for part of the winter in Arizona is nicknamed squeaky.
He just hit 90 this year and to celebrate made his first parachute jump (tandem).
He is looking to trade his 12 year old motor home in on a new one. - 5thwheeleroldmaExplorerWhen I was a kid, we used to josh with an old man in our town. He would say, "Sonny, at my age I don't even buy green banannas!"
No, I would say go for it if you still feel good. - valhalla360NavigatorIf you are healthy and a safe driver, sure.
Do be honest about your health and abilities. Toward the end, my Dad was getting a little scary but that included just driving the car.
Not to be Debbie Downer but I would consider the exit strategy. Even if you are healthy now, age takes it's toll and it's often a quick change as you reach your later years. If you have too much of your nest egg tied up in the MH, what happens if you have to switch to assisted living or such? Will you get enough out of the MH on a quick sale under duress? - GjacExplorer IIIActually 70 is the perfect time to buy an RV. At 701/2 you have to take MRD from your 401k and IRA's so you might as well spend it on an RV or start giving it to your kids..
- pennysmom09ExplorerSound like you have plenty of company! Include us, we started in our mid 70's and feeling good!
