Dallas/Fort Worth to Las Vegas

I think we want to emphasize the importance of all there is in LV that should not be missed.

Hey, we all like to not over-spend or waste money on things that we do not use, that's why I don't get the upgraded sites at Motorcoach... just wouldn't use it! It's nice having security driving around and the place is gated/guarded. And I know people seeing me buying a new coach might think that's it's way overboard but I wanted quality, I like buying new and really do not plan on replacing this coach unless we go smaller maybe in 20 yrs.

When you mentioned about your car being broke into, it just makes it worth it to me to pay a little more for piece of mind (in Las Vegas). One thing I like about the Honda is that it is invisible when parked in parking lots and casino's. You just never know what the 'bad people' are looking for when out and about. You can't get any duller than a silver Honda. LOL!

Come on! You are buying a 2 million dollar motorhome and you want to sound like you are just like us common folk. You will have wasted more money on your RV purchase than some folks will earn in a lifetime. No car is invisible. It's just being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Anyone can become a victim. If I was a crook, I would follow everyone who left the Motorcoach resort and rob them where ever they stopped. Can't go wrong, you know they are going to have money in their pockets.

Is anyone here interested in returning to the OP's question? The question was NOT about Vegas. It was about what do to "on the way to Vegas".

We have stayed in a nice park in Boulder City, very quiet and a lot less than on the Strip. It is 20 minutes to the strip and it is 30 minutes or less to the Dam and Lake Mead.

You won't have a lot of time but Valley of Fire SP is not far and is also a wonderful place to spend some time.

There is plenty of open BLM land for boondocking if you are so inclined. It really depends on how much time you need to spend in LV. Our visits in the area are devoted to spending as little time on the Strip as possible while seeing the shows we want to see. We are not gamblers so much of what is there is a turnoff for us.
The I40 route is the most efficient for time and fuel.

Our favorite place to stay in Las Vegas is the Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort on Arville just off Blue Diamond and the I-15.

It's gated, guarded and is a beautiful quiet place to stay. We usually get a regular spot at about $65 a night. No need for the outdoor kitchens, etc. for us as we eat out every meal except breakfast. And, there is a 50's diner on the premises.

On the south end of the strip at LV blvd and Blue diamond (160) is the Oasis one of the nicest RV parks in LV. Stopping at the grand canyon and Flagstaff would be high on my list.

with a wall all around ..you are close to the freeway..keep that in mind.

The KOA is still very expensive but there's no experience quite like it. We are there now and it cost about $1000 for the month but life is about choices. My tow car was broken into and robbed twice while staying in the cheap Sam Town RV Park. I have never had a single issue at the Circus Circus KOA (or just the Circus Circus RV park before they leased it to KOA). It's also ON THE STRIP! This park will be greatly missed but it's just another example in the growing list of RVers and their business being taken out by more profitable ventures.

Hello Ft. Worth from an expat Texan living in Las Vegas after being stationed here in 1987. We've made the trip to and from more times than I can remember. Having relatives ranging from Dallas to Crockett and then on down to a couple of places in the Houston area. We've used most if not all the major routes to and from, including using I-10 from Houston back to Vegas. For straight to Vegas from the Dallas/Ft Worth area, I would recommend Hwy 287 to Amarillo, turn left on I 40 and turn right on US 93 at Kingman AZ. The route through OK City to Amarillo only takes about 3/4 to an hour longer as there is less slow downs incurred at the various towns along 287. I only do 5 to 6 hrs and/or a max of 300 miles per day so my layovers will be far different than most RVers. Try to avoid a layover at Santa Rosa, NM. The so called "best" park is at best a dump. HOA at Holbrook is a favorite of ours, very nice couple run it. Also don't fill up at the station on the far west side of town, they were .50 cents higher than those in town. Next trip I plan on doing Meteor Crater just for grins.

If you are needing the "inexpensive" route on the way home (hahahahaha) the I40/US84/I20 route is good, except for Clovis NM, and their is free camping and good no, really excellent, eating in Muleshoe TX. The city provides a campground on the west end of town and the Dinner Bell is across the highway. Down the road a few blocks is Leal's which is as good of Mexican food as you will find anywhere. They also have the fast food places that you have seen for days.
