  • Our coach has been converted to all MCD day/night shades...including the windshield. Well worth the $$$ and you can do the conversion over a period of time to defer the cost if necessary.
  • I used blinds dot com to order a roller blind to replace the dual honeycomb blind over our bed. I think I paid less than $150 for a custom sized blind (60x27). It wasn't too hard to install and will suit us fine. As stated above add about $200 for anything automated.

The ease at which a roller shade is installed, highly depends on what kind of work space that is provided inside the valance. The way our valances are designed, there's no possible way to be able to get screws into the brackets, ANY of Blind Chalet's brackets, much less any form of a screw driver. I even spoke with a couple of their designers and had them send me the two forms of their mounting brackets, just to see if I could figure some way of adapting them to another mounting system.

For us, and our coach, an '04 Itasca Horizon, the MCD system for mounting is pretty much the only ones that I could use. I've got other ideas in the works, that will maybe allow for us to procure Blind Chalet versions. We'll see.

Well, that's your first problem. Changing from the standard day/night shades to "Roller" shades, normally the brand MCD is the top of the line stuff, is not CHEAP. And, if you go motorized, it's even WAY more expensive. For instance, our bedroom window is about 30" wide by about the same tall. If I recall, MCD wants about $145 or so, just for that window and, it's a manual unit, not motorized. There are cheaper brands out there but, there's pitfalls with going cheaper.

Blind Chalet is another supplier. Theirs are quite a bit cheaper in the roller version of night/day. But, their mounting system is a lot harder to work with. MCDs use a clip system that's mounted then, you simply click in the entire assembly into those clips. If they need to come out for any reason, it's easy, just un-clip them.

But, Blind Chalet's units are screwed in. It's a lot harder to access the screws if, you have limited valance clearance that we do in our coach. But, again, they're about 1/2 the cost, and about the same quality. So, there's a couple of choices for you.

Funny you say cheaper. With a 48% coupon, I paid $145 for one non motorized
27" x 33" day/ night roller shade from Blind Chalet for the United Shades.

We didn't find them difficult to install at all, and chose them due to the warranty, and adjustments that are easier to get to, as well as the better color options than MCD.

    Just sayin
