Dead Batteries

My 4 coach batteries are dead and hence won't start the generator. Is it OK to use a portable jump starter on them to crank/start the generator?

  • If your batteries are "Dead", then I would try to put a battery charger on them for at least 4 hours, as I don't believe you will be able to jump start completely dead batteries without putting some charge back into them first. Running the main engine should charge the house batteries while its running.

With the engine running use your automatic jumper cables to charge your house batteries.OK, it's the boost switch on the dash...

That depends on how big your jump pack IS and how dead the batteries are. It's worth a try and certainly won't hurt anything.

BUT.....while designs vary, running the chassis engine should charge ALL of the batteries without pushing any switches.

The primary purpose of that switch is to start the truck chassis engine if the coach batteries are not dead.

Typically running the generator will not charge the chassis battery; thus the switch.

Yes, but it's not going to start the generator. With the engine running use your automatic jumper cables to charge your house batteries.OK, it's the boost switch on the dash...may require holding it on for 15+ minutes before you can get enough charge into four dead batteries.
