delamination issue

We were looking over a used 2006 Winnebago Outlook recently. We noticed what appeared to be a delamination problem on the side of the unit. There were two spots where the fiberglass skin appeared to have turned loose from the base. In other words it wasn't flat and you could smooth it down. The two areas we noticed were about 6 inches in diameter. We were thinking strongly of purchasing the unit, but this is probably a deal breaker. Any advice?

  • im repairing delamination on my TT. there is really no way of knowing how bad it is until you get in there.. if the outer fiberglass is delaminated from the core then more than likely the thin wood backing between the outer skin and foam core has rotted away. this was the case with mine. my only option was to remove all the damage and build a frame in the affected area from treated studs and then fill the openings back up with the apropriate thickness of rigid foam and adhesive. you also want to bond all the tems back together as well as possible using clamps and boards holding pressure on both sides until cured. mine doenst look perfect and still has some small ripples in the skin.. its really strong though
  • The areas of delam will grow and spread unless fixed ASAP. Delam also is a pretty good indicator of water intrusion. Unless your handy or are willing to spend potentially thousands, you might want to rethink purchasing it.
  • No, just walk away. Now.
Seriously you will be buying a total headache and why - you can always find another trailer you like that isn't going to require thousands in repairs.
