Destination limits due to coach size

Hi All,

New people here about to venture Into RV'ing.

I have another thread whereby I am asking opinions on build quality and brand feedback. During that discussion a member mentioned I would be very limited in accessing most national parks with a unit that is 42'.

I realize not all campgrounds are suited for large tag axel units. We don't expect to rely too much on terrestrial services which is why I am seeking a house on wheels so to speak. Is this a bad idea?

Can I hear some feedback on your experiences of denied access due to coach size.

  • I haven't been denied access to any parks but our rig is only 34' long. I will say that sometimes, even finding a site for a 35' rig is difficult in National Parks if we don't book far enough in advance. There are always commercial parks available but we prefer not to stay often in those.

An example: Yosemite Valley has 9 sites for 36-40' rigs. Nothing for larger. There are @18 sites for 35' rigs.
  • It is true in many cases that newer larger RV's are too large for some older design CG's. But in most of these places, like national park areas there are also many private, more modern CG's nearby. You'll fit in fine in those places. And enjoy the national parks just the same.
  • Hi,

Find a floor plan you can live in with the shortest possible length.

I full time in a class c that is 28'5". I boondock as much as I can. I have no slides to fail.

Quality control in the rv industry is low. Expect to have start up issues with a new RV and huge depreciation. That is one reason to consider a used RV.
