diesel oil change

I have a Tiffin Bus , Cummings 330HP , it takes 24 quarts using shell Rotella $13 /gallon = $78 plus a Fleetquard oil filter which everyone wants $50-$60 for which = $128 with me doing labor. Does this sound right? Reading other stories of people saying they had their RV "serviced" for much less ( 1 guy on RV.net) said he did his done for $48 , how is that possible? Anybody pay similar amounts who do their own oil change? Thanks for input ...Robert S. Bozeman , Mt
  • I called Cummings dealer in billings Mt, & he quoted me $60 for the fleetguard LF 9009, I did manage to get the same filter from friend w/autostore discount of $50, from O'Reily's. My 330HP takes 6 gallons $12.98/gallon at Wallyworld which is $77.88. I guess its a Big diesel engine, not sure I am new to this Bus & brand new to owning a diesel RV. but I like it a lot. Thanks for all input, regards Robert S. Bozeman, mt
  • If you are driving a diesel pusher and you don't like the cost/quality of oil and filters, you must really scream when you pull up to the fuel pump. LOL

Just had my 6.7 Ram changed at Wallyworld. At first they said no due to not having the torque numbers for the drain plug. I told them at most it would be right at 35 ft lbs. They said NO! Had to have the correct number due to liability. Dealer call ed back and said the value was 37 ft lbs. LOL

I personally would not want anyone that is that stupid to be working on my vehicle. If the guy was so dumb that he could not asertain something as elementary as how tight the oil plug should be then its sad.Real sad

I use the fleetguard 9009 filter which is the HD one and only pay $30.40 at a cummins dealer.Oil should run around 55.00 per 18.7L pail
=5 US gallons. check around as the filter at 50++$ is wrong

  • Sounds about right........Diesel engines require a ton of oil, no getting around that.
