No, you can mount it right on the old crankup mount that the Winegard Sensor was mounted on. That is were I mounted mine.
There are two types that RV Jack sells. You are talking about the one that clips onto the head of the old Winegard unit. I ruined the crank mechanism in my old antenna, so the old antenna needed to be removed.
I bought the one that mounts directly to the roof because I'm tired of worrying if I left the antenna up. The RV Jack roof-mount antenna wouldn't go exactly where the old one went. I had to re-locate mine because the antenna was up against the A/C unit. The hole would have been too small anyway.
I removed the old antenna, patched the hole, drilled a new larger hole a few inches away so that the new antenna would clear the A/C unit.
