Dinette table coming loose AGAIN

I have a 2006 Holiday Ambassador with a dinette table that converts to a bed. I have repaired the attachment to the wall a number of times but the pressed board just does not hold screws.
Has anybody out there made a permanent repair for this problem? If I have to I would be willing to mount it permanently to the wall and give up the bed function but would rather not...

  • Thanks for your great suggestions, guys. I followed y'all's suggestions and glued and screwed a 2x2 to the table. I will screw the 2x2 to the wall just under the trim piece. I lose the ability to convert to a tiny bed, but have only used it twice in 6 or 7 years and it will be MUCH sturdier...I should not have to do it again!

I'm so sorry I didn't make myself clear in my post. It's the pressed board on the bottom of the pressed board Table that's basically destroyed. Last time I drilled two more holes in the brackets screwed to the Table but they have stripped out again. Forgive me guys...
Same solution only glue the wood to the bottom of the table. Predrill the holes into the solid wood. They should not strip out.
  • Now that you clarified, it's even easier. Just get a piece of 3/8" plywood, cut it smaller than the table so that it's not visible and glue it to the bottom of the table and reinstall.

    One word Gorilla Glue

Just follow instructions and maybe add the Aluminum plate to give you something to work with.

Once the stuff drys it is amazing.

    BOL,
  • I think you could take DSDP Don's idea of an aluminum plate and place it on the bottom of the table to distribute the load. I'd put a lot of screws through the plate into the bottom of the table top.

I have the same issue, my current thoughts are a 1x4 long enough to reach the nearest studs, screw it to the studs and reattach the table brackets to the 1x4 Of course I would have to pretty up the 1x4 :)
I wood take it one step farther. Glue the board to the wall. That dissipate the load over a large area, so it should hold just fine.
  • Get a piece of aluminum, about 1/16" thick that is the width or even longer than the area where the table will mount. If the aluminum will be primarily under the table and not visible, make it about 6" - 8" wide and length of table.

Apply several rows of two sided tape to the back, and then screw it to the wall in multiple places with short screws. This will create a sturdier mount for the table. The two sided tape and screws make it hard to remove/tear off.
