- J-RoosterExplorerBob, I don't burn wood anymore I don't like the smoke! When I did, I would put the firewood in a recycle bin crate. By doing that it kept my storage bins clean.
- tplifeExplorerBob, the answer is H*ll Yeah! There's always plenty of room for cut eucalyptus in the Class A bins on mom's Allegro. Haven't had anybody out west ask us about our wood either, LOL. And we just get kindling (woodscraps) at the campground laying around with a flammable solvent for a firestarter.
- kmb1966ExplorerWe don't bring firewood. We will bring some fire starter bricks and purchase firewood at the campground. Like the above posts have mentioned, many areas do not allow bringing in firewood due to insects. I don't pack it in the bins because of #1: WEIGHT - added weight costs fuel $. #2 Insects in the bin itself.
- Sully2ExplorerA lot depends on he theory of camping fires.
Indians used to have a saying that "Indian buildem little fire...settum up close"....."White man buildem BIG fires...stand WAAAYYY back"....:B - Mile_HighExplorerI guess it also depends on the rig as well - The fiberglass exterior storage attached to the slides on a gas Class A would kind of isolate the wood from to other areas, but all of our cabinets are open space to other areas on ours.
- GjacExplorer IIIIt really depends on where you camp at what kind of CG's you stay at. I usually camp in NF or SP type CG's. I store wood in my slide out storage all the time when I camp in state at SP's, I am not worried about termites. When traveling out of state I store oak blocks from pallets to cook on but not firewood as in logs. I also carry an electric chain saw to cut up dead wood in that local area for camp fires. As others have said some states don't want you transporting wood that may contain beetles or other tree destroying insects.
- msmith1199Explorer III don't think it's a good idea to spray firewood with pesticides and then burn it.
- mc_ccExplorerYes. You do have to be mindful of pests. I would typically keep the wood covered and in an area that is sprayed with pesticides before I load it into the coach. It also has to be dry, otherwise the walls and ceiling of your bin will condensate. Most of the time, I am not carrying firewood out of state though. I just purchased a new MH and am somewhat reluctant to do that now because the basement storage is opened to the other bins. My previous MH had individual sealed basement storage. I had a large bin dedicated to just that.
- Mile_HighExplorerI can't do smoke much anymore, so went went to gas. Got a large portable fire pit at Costco years back and it does the trick for us.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIII used to to do this but took care to deal with insects.. I have stopped.
Reason: Wood is a lot of weight for very little money, Cheaper to buy it near your destination.
