I worked for a short time as an insurance adjuster many years ago. I worked for an independent adjusting company so we handled claims for a lot of companies. One thing I can tell you is no insurance company ever told me to low ball a claim or try and rip a policy holder off. The instructions were always to pay what's fair and we did that. Now on the customer side, I never had a policy holder that didn't try and rip off the insurance company! Okay, that's an exaggeration, many claimants were just fine and only asked for what they were legitimately owed. But that was maybe 30% of the people. In up to 70% of the claims people think they hit the lotto and the insurance company owes them millions! And when you don't give them millions, they claim you are the one ripping them off! So when you hear people complaining about their insurance company, just keep that in mind. And it's also the reason insurance companies make you jump through so many hoops when you file a claim. They want to double check and make sure everything is legit.
