If you do get a motorhome with slides, one thing you need to do is learn how to manually retract them and make sure you have the proper tools on board to do so. Also make sure you have things like the proper shear pins as well as things like a center punch to get a broken shear pin out.
I have only had one significant problem with a slide and that was when my bedroom slide sheared off the shear pin while is was open and I was boon docking. I had never even looked at the manual closing procedure before so I had to get the manual out and look it up. Luckily I had all the tools I needed to get it fixed, with the exception of the shear pin. But I had a nail that acted as a temp fix.
