Do you have trouble with slides

I have not had any problems with the slides on my coach. The big slide is hydraulic and the smaller slide in the bedroom is rack and pinion I believe. I say I believe because I can not see the bottom of the slide and how it operates, but it sounds like a rack and pinion gear type operation.

I have a three slide motorhome. The switch on my kitchen slide broke a while ago and I didn't even fix it for about 9 months because I found I really didn't need the space it provided. Now that I have the switch fixed, most of the time I don't even open the kitchen slide. Yeah the space is nice, but I could live without it. But I do only use my motorhome for weekends and a week or two at a time. If I was doing longer stays then I'd want four slides.

I have the same slides as Mr Mark's Dynasty above. Occasionally none of the three hydraulic ones want to work and pushing the button several times gets the pump to start. I've located that solenoid below the step and when it stops working completely I'll replace it. The hydraulic one in the bedroom needs a little going out on the bottom left side so I help it with my foot... comes in fine. So, in 11 plus years I've never had a serious problem. They do not leak (slide out awning cover helps) and no wind noise... four slides are on my MUST HAVE LIST and I am NOT waiting for problems.:S

Had an '05 KZ 33 foot toy hauler 5ver. It had a 12' "superslide" that stripped off the driver gear on the motor several times. The local dealer got tired of fixing that, and had a custom gear made at a local machine shop. The driver gear on the motor shaft wasn't engaging the driven gear correctly, and the new custom-made gear fixed that. It never messed up again. KZ was of absolutely no help, sent us two faulty soft-metal gears that both stripped out until the dealer fixed it right.

There are those having no problems, those having problems right now and those waiting for a problem to occur. Had a problem with my one slide Bounder, problem with one of my three current slides, and hopefully no problems with the six slide FW we have on order, ha ha.

On our previous coach (2008 Monaco Dynasty), we had three hydraulic slides and one electric (the electric slide was the one with the bed attached).

Once, the control board connections vibrated loose and none of the slides would move. I found the control board at the ceiling of one of the bays behind a panel. I pushed the connectors in and all was well (had to do that a couple of times over the years).

Then another time, the living room slide on the driver's side got quirked somehow. When I was retracting the slide, I noticed that the bottom rear of the slide was kind of sticking, the top was moving fine. So, I stopped the slide before it got more 'quirked'. It was sticking out about 4-5 inches.

I drove it like that to service 65 miles away. The tech told me it was good that I stopped it as a bracket would have bent if I had forced it (which would have cost more repairing it). All it needed was an adjustment and all was fine again. He told me to have the slides checked once a year. I never read that in any of the manuals.

So, in 7.5 yrs. of owning that coach, the slides just had a couple of issues.

On the new coach (4 electric slides), I got a message on the dash readout that said 'you must put transmission in park to open slides'. The sensor was set to a very sensitive setting. As we were going around a curve and the coach would lean slightly, the message would appear. I took it in for service and they adjusted the sensor and all was well, no other problems.

Only problem I've had, and still having, is a bad resettable fuse that I cannot find. Slides go out without issue, but fuse keeps triping while retracting. Mine are hydraulic and in previous units have worked flawlessly.

Is one type of slide mechanism better than another one? Cable pull slide over the different types of gear slides?

We used RVs with slides for 20 years with absolutely no problems.

Yes, you'll find that some folks have problems but those are the only reports you hear about. You don't hear about the millions who don't have problems. :)

Just test them out good when you go to look at the RVs and look for any water damage.

Some have mentioned having more issues with slides that included the refrigerator due to weight. That said, engineering of slides has improved dramatically over the years. They certainly make for a much roomier experience.

I would recommend paying attention to maintenance, and also look at what the functionality will be with slides in while traveling. With ours in , the only impact is a few drawers at the end of the bed cannot be opened.
