Hi folks, I hope no one is following my posts. If so you must think I'm RV bi-polar! I'm considering going up to a DRW truck and getting a truck camper but also want to give the Class C idea a fair shake. DW really likes the Winnebago View. She's always liked them since they've come out. I think maybe we could afford an early 24J in the near future. Something like a 2008:Then I saw the 2011 Via 25Q. Really like the walk around rear "queen"I wish I could combine the rear slideout and mid-bath of the 25Q with the dinette slideout and cabover bunk of the View 24J. We're a family of 4, might be 5 someday so I'd want enough seatbelts for the kids. Has to be a number of years old so we can afford it on the used market - can't swing the 2011 View even if it was right for us.I've also looked through as much archived Ford / Chevy based Class C's brochures I could stand today and got cross-eyed. Anyone have suggestions? Does such an animal exist? I want to stay in the realm of 25ft for driveability. Today our 5er is super as a mobile condo but we think we'd like to change our trips from week long stays to extended trips where we hop around. For that our combination is a bit huge. Takes some planning when we go places...

I can see where your confusion comes from.They would all be great choices. I wonder if the Phantom 25P would seem the most roomy with that huge slide moving everything away from the center of the rig.

We loved the sprinters too until we did the arithmetic on cargo carrying capacities. By the time you list and weigh the gear (kitchen, linens, toys, clothing, tools) supplies, food people and water, the unit is way overweight. We just couldn't make it work for the two of us - I'd be shocked if it works for a whole family and come in at a total loaded weight under 11,030 lbs. Happy hunting!

I have a 2015 Winnebago View and with me in the rig and everything else except water, fresh food in the fridge, my wife and dog our rig weighs 9960. This leaves me over 1070# of capacity left. My water. wife, dog and fresh food well not overload it.

Most of the time I have just seen couples in them and most it seems are older (like us and probably retired). I seen a ton of them in Alaska in 2013 when we had our truck camper up there. I think coming from a truck camper helps us with loading lightly as we didn't have that much room in the camper so we learned to travel with less.

I echo what others have said...

The Sprinters don't have a lot of payload left. More/bigger slides = less payload available, which may not leave enough capacity for a family of 4.

Also, beware that the seats in the living area of any motohome will not be near as comfortable as OEM truck seats for long drives. Being able to get up stretch is the only saving grace, but I'm not sure you want kids up an about while driving.

Maybe I'm missing something (quite likely), but I'm not sure I understand how a 25' class C has much better drivability than a 30-32' unit. The longer ones are a little trickier to maneuver in tight quarters, but neither one is a piece of cake. On the road there's not a lot of difference, assuming comparable chassis and reasonable wheelbases. Neither one can really be parked in a single normal parking space--you need at least two end-to-end in either case.

25' just seems to me to be somewhat in no man's land for a family--big enough to still be unwieldy, but small enough to be very tight with more than a couple of people.

If you are willing to go to just under 30 foot length (just slightly more than those 24-26 numbered models that are actually 27-28 feet long) look at the two-slide floorplans from Forest River and Winnebago/Itasca, 2003-2008 or so. For these, sofa was in front slide, opposite a patio-side dinette, and queen in back slide. Winnebago put two seatbelts in dinette, two on sofa. Mine has seatbelts installed in all seven seating positions in the house, was not hard to do.

W/I model number was 29B; I know F-R had an equivalent because someone in our RV club bought one and used it for about six months before trading for the similar Winnebago.
