Dometic RM7732 keeps going off

My fridge is not working.......replaced the circuit board...and it keeps going off .Sometimes it will stay on for 2 or 3 hrs then shuts itself off We thought it was not getting enuf battery power, so put as battery charger on for a couple days.....IT STILL CUTS OFF
There is no light coming on that says fridge has an issue...If I turn on the overhead light in the bedroom, the fridge cuts off, so I don't turn on any lightsssssss........
It is driving me nuts. babysitting it and using as ice cooler
PLEASE HELP, ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME
I got a new cooling unit 1 1/2 yrs ago. it is working
THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSS
  • Have you check ALL connections to the circuit board and to the refrigerator itself for loose wires, frayed wires(rodent damage or friction damage), and anything else that could interupt power getting to the unit. With a cooling unit and circuit board being replaced, there were many chances for a bad/weak connection to happen.
  • The 12 VDC light affecting refrigerator operation certainly suggests an electrical issue.

Check both positive and ground circuits at the refrigerator (clean and tight).

Also, next time this happens, with your digital voltmeter, check voltage reading between the refrigerator positive and negative terminals. If good there, remove the protective cover for the PC board and check there.
  • Wolfe is dead on. You absolutely have a voltage problem if it goes off when you turn a bedroom light on.

Take your voltage measurements on the back of the refer, turn the light on, take them again.

What you use for a ground for your meter is important because you could have a ground issue but I suspect the voltage is going low.

You most likely have an AC outlet in the refer area. Stick the negative lead of your voltmeter into the ground hole of the outlet. If you are uncomfortable doing this then disconnect from shoreline and make sure your inverter is off.

Use this ground to take measurements as described above. Be sure to look for voltage on the negative wire of the refer.

Post those measurements back and it should get sorted quickly.

If you find the voltage going low it is possible to find another source of power until you can run it down.
  • The 7732 is getting 'long-in-the-tooth'!!!

Yes, you can let it drive you crazy with various periodic failings that are difficult to find (my troubleshooting guide is dog-eared and tired) OR ---- replace it. I got tired of the beast not working when I needed it and decided that it was time for the replacement to happen!

Now if you follow the Dometic recommendation a replacement fridge/freezer combo (that does not fit the 7732 opening and needs cabinet work in the MoHo as well), you can get one for about $3200 PLUS freight PLUS removal & installation PLUS cabinet work! (The last two costs may be DIY if you are smart & physically fit.)

I started to search for a household fridge that would fit into the opening and found several - but none would go into the rig thru the entry door as they were simply too big. One place even suggested removing the windshield to get the old one out and the new one in - just not practical and cost-effective!!

Long Story short, I purchased a Whirlpool 10.6 cu ft two-door in black from Best Buy (Black Friday sale). It fits into the rig via the entry door (23.5 inches) with the fridge & freezer doors removed. PLUS there is now an added space about 7 inches wide and 23 inches deep alongside the fridge as it is narrower than the 7732. AND that space is now an added pantry with several shelves for storage! WIN - WIN

Total cost? $526 for the fridge, added 3-years service plan and delivery to the RV shop for installation. PLUS $1100 to remove the 7732, install the Whirlpool and custom build the pantry with a secure door. So at $1626 I have a professional installation of a new fridge.

If I had the skills, tools and cabinet making skills, I could have saved that $1100!!! (OH - it does take at least two people to man-handle the 7732 out and the Whirlpool into the rig.)

I figure we mostly are staying at places with 120v electric service and the infrequent boondock nights, the generator will run for awhile and the fridge will stay closed most of the time - so I did not go to the expense of a big battery bank and inverter to run the fridge when we are off-grid as that is not a usual situation for us.
