If they can 'run to latrine, do their business and run back' to reset alerter in 20 seconds then they didn't really need to go.
Whaa! Have you forgotten the speed of youth? Needin' and goin' are sometimes a different concept for us vintage guys.
We worked some weird hours. Never really knew when to hurry up and sleep. That's why I always drank coffee. Sure, the caffeine was ineffective after a few hours. But if I fell asleep, besides missing the alerter and/or wrecking the train, I might wet my pants. Multiple fear is a strong motivator to stay awake. :E
Sooner or later we stopped and met another train. Ahh. :)
