Dont try this at home

I was talking to a friend that just got back from a long road trip in his class A DP. He did all the driving. On the way home he wanted to use the bathroom so he convinced his wife to drive for a short spell. The problem is that he did not stop the rig to make the switch. He tried to stand up while his wife scooted in under him all while driving on I95 at highway speeds. During the transition the MH swerved over and scared the wife so they quickly switched back.

SO I tell them both how stupid they were. They had 2 young children in the RV. They could have killed everyone on board and others in a wreck. How could you not pull over/off and then switch it up? After my mini lecture they agreed it was stupid. To make matter worse they guy that was telling me the story is a cop. How fast do you think he would pull someone over for doing the exact same thing?

    Many folks have told me that I'm "not all there" but having been driving my bus conversion for the last 16 years and often needing to get from point A to point B very quickly.....Well, never mind..... :S

    You'd have a better chance of being struck by lightning 3 times and eaten by sharks in your living room. But I get your point. It's not a good idea. But it probably seemed like it at the time...

    Imagine at the same exact moment, the front tire blew out? That would be very ugly.
    I have not imagined in my wildest dreams doing the switch. I am never in such a hurry that I cannot park for a few minutes.

    Not all are driving RV's, some in Cars, Pickup trucks, Trucks and don't forget Motorcycles! :E

    There have been a few times, when the traffic was backed up and we were in "stop & go" conditions, that wifey and I would swap off for a short period.

    I can't imagine anyone being foolish enough to attempt it at highway speed.

    The only time my DW has sat behind the wheel on the street, I did the exact same thing. Stuck in traffic on I-20 in Shreeveport, pulled brake, swapped, and I had to go bad. DW was yelling at me Traffic is moving ". I could see probably 2 miles ahead before I gave her the wheel and knew it was all stop & go maybe 10 feet at a time. I yelled back "you can do it, I have faith in you". LOL. When I finished my business, I returned & she had moved about 50' with sweaty palms.
    We've since had her practice in parking lots just in case I cannot drive.

    Only time I have ever done a middle of the road driver swap we were in what can best be described as parking lot city.

    I put it in park and got out of driver's seat.. Wife got in driver's seat and after a brief wait put it in drive and pulled ahead about 5 feet... I returned and we swapped back same way.

    Not much danger at those speeds :)

    I remember my dad and uncle doing "the switch" on I-95 on the way to Florida when I was a young un.
