Dry food storage underneath

On my motor home inside the living quarters the only mice are the computer kind, and most of those wireless.. The Organic type of mouse prefers to avoid the living quarters.. You see, my traveling companions would love a mouse or two to play with.. and perhaps have over for dinner.... They are cats.

But in the basement, there is evidence of mouse in one compartment. Have not seen mouse, only evidence.. nothing in that compartment he can damage but there is some evidence of presence. (Likely starved to death).

You should consider this... Just one compartment shows evidence.

Stay away from cardboard. Roaches love it.

This was a change for us with the travel we do now. Back a while ago we generally went to a lake with at best small store and "real" groceries were 25-40 miles away so you packed everything you needed for the week.

Now we are seldom more than 4 or 5 miles out side of a town and if we are we will stock up for however long we need to.

We don't feed 5 people, 2 at a time as teenagers, so the volume of food we require is much smaller too! :B We need milk at least once a week and like to try and find farmers markets to pick up fresh food also.

We have used many types of storage containers to keep and store foods on long trips. Rubbermaid as well as dollar store closable and sealable containers. We also have a great deal of cupboard space in our MH. A few years back it had become apparent that some and sometimes a lot of the food we carried was just in case type foods and we ended up bringing much of it back with us. We find we are more spontaneous on the road. Now we just pack enough for about a week at a time in the meal type items. We stop along the way at large grocery stores especially Kroger as that is where we shop at home. We stock up for the week to 10 days and then go on. That has worked better for us and allows more space for other items in the coach.

We store as much as possible in the basement compartments. It lowers the center of gravity and helps stabilize the rig if the winds kick up when we are in the Great Plains.

Thanks all! Like Meanderman, we will be retired military, so we would like to stop at a commissary in order to take advantage of the savings and use the local stores to replenish fruits, fresh vegetables, milk, and bread.

I just was unsure of what containers people used if they stored food under the coach--thanks!

We've full-timed for 16 years and lived like we would in a home and cooked the same way. For the two of us we don't go through a lot of dry foods so we never stocked up. We buy fresh meat and veggies. There are groceries everywhere. We do buy paper towels, toilet paper and drinks in quantity but that's it. We have Tupperware containers in our cabinets that hold one 5lb bag of flour, sugar, etc. but we don't buy it in excess. Why carry all of that around? One thing you might do is to first test your basement area a season to make sure you'll have no easy rodent/insect routes to deal with, especially if you don't use a sturdy plastic container. Safe travels.

We're full timers and retired military, so we'll stop at a commissary and buy items that are cheaper there, then store them in large plastic tubs in the basement. We've stored everything from boxed goods to cans and bottles, and never had a problem with mice or anything else. I don't believe heat is much of an issue - there aren't many grocery warehouses that are air conditioned. And the ambient heat from the coach prevents any freeze damage down into the teens.

we have stored entire trips worth of food (with the exception of milk, bread and fruits/vegetables) 50 nights was the longest. We used Rubbermaid tubs.

Heat was not a problem for us we have a DP so most of the heat is in the rear.
