Duel Fuel Class A

In my search for a newer MH I called a guy that had a 2007 Daybreak with a Ford Chassis and that can run off propane also. I have heard about this set up before but never actually talked to anyone that had this set up. The main reason I called was that the MH only had 10,000 miles on it, but the exterior decals were shot which seems to be common with these MH's. Does anyone know anything about this set up or have actual experience with it? Is this a plus? On the surface it seems like an advantage.

    Yes we had one.

  • It's been a few years ago, but at one time I purchased service parts for a customer who had stationary engines that ran on methane. Valve wear was a problem (lack of lubrication). We had to source special hardened valves and seats and service life was rather short. I believe propane engines share that characteristic.

I see no reason for the main engine to run off of propane.

Yes he said he has two propane tanks one for the house and one for the engine. These conversions were more common in Canada a while back because propane was cheaper than gas and I believe the govt subsidized the conversion. What I have be told is propane is much cleaner than gas, longer engine life with fewer emissions.
  • I wonder if it was a conversion. I had never heard of a RV manufacturer doing that, but its sure possible. It was played with quite a bit for alternative fuel credits.
