dumb jack question

Good morning

I have hwh jacks on a Freightliner Newmar. Generally retracting the jacks is part of our departure routine. The engine is running, airEd up, etc. But can you retract the jacks without all that? Just hit store? I'm thinking yes, but would like to have the input from you. Thanks.
  • On my 2011 Dutch Star,4020, the jacks will not come up when the engine
is running.(electrical lock out!) This is normal.
    Siggy
  • We have a Newmar on a Spartan chassis and I retract the jacks before starting the engine and airing up. Actually do it on the accessory setting on the key since that doesn't activate the blaring alarm while it sits there for several minutes retracting the jacks.

I usually spend the few minutes waiting for the jacks to store outside double checking all of the compartment doors and making sure the toad is secure, having a last smoke, etc.
  • OP here. Yes, we will be bringing in the slides prior to retracting jacks. Just don't want to start up engine for the sole reason of bringing up the jacks. Did check our HWH manual and couldn't find an answer. We've been rving for ages, but not very mechanical smart - and any variation of what we do know - is a head scratcher.

    X-2
  • I think for most the answer is yes. HWH would refer you to your models specific operating manual.
