Leveling jacks question

METAL- I don't have DIRECT answers but I am having the same type issue(s).

First time I used "AUTO LEVEL" my front end was way higher, tires were 3-4" off the ground..NOT GOOD. I followed the owners manual for the system, and did the "reset calibration" program. Tried again, still not what I had hoped for.

I now manually level the coach. I use a level "app" on my phone, place the phone flat on the floor, extend rear jacks down together, lift coach 2-3" in the rear (or until my level shows a rear end high angle)then extend front jacks to level front to back...I then use the left/right down to level side to side...once complete, I shut the system down.

As far as "retract all", yes, its a bit rocky and initially can catch you off guard.

My biggest issue is I will be on fairly level ground, the unit will see like a 1.6 degree of difference frt/bck and not allow the leveling system to engage/work. Ive walked out and taken a look and it appears almost spot on level. My prior coach had a different system and the auto level would work on sloped ground that was noticeable, this one doesn't want to level out unless I am almost perfectly level to being with.

I am hoping its user error and there will be an "AH-HAH" moment when I figure it out...haven't had that yet, unfortunately.

When I hit the retract all, the motorhome just drops to the ground. Feels like someone picked up the coach and dropped it. I am sure it's not that bad but it sure feels that way while inside.

FIRST thing you have to do is list the BRAND of Jacks and the Jack model number if you have it. NO, the front tires should NOT come off the ground unless you are leaning downward at the front too much and the RV has to go off the ground to get level. NEVER leave the tires hanging in the air. If the jacks fail and the RV drops, you will have possible damage to the frame and windshield. USE blocks under the tires if off the ground. Doug

When I use auto level it will raise front tires off the ground if needed. I will then lower the front until the tires hit the ground. Also on auto it will jerk some as it adjusts in small increments while trying to seek level. I assume this is done to minimize potential to crack something like a windshield.

How do you lower the front without using the "retract jacks" button? I have found no way to lower the jacks without the retract button.

I am guessing you have the LIPPERT COMPONENTS: LCI LEVEL-UP system? (2013-present).

That's the owners manual I downloaded as it was not in the coach when purchased.

If you haven't done so, next time out and when parked on very level (preferable a hard level surface) do the "LEVEL ZERO POINT CALIBRATION".

Level Zero Point Calibration
Before auto leveling features are available, the Level Zero point must be set. This is the point to which the
system will return when an auto leveling cycle is initiated.
To set the zero point (controller module must be fully secured in production-intent location), first run a
manual leveling sequence to get the vehicle to the desired level point. Then activate the Level Zero point
configuration mode.
This mode is enabled by performing the following sequence:
1. Turn panel off.
2. Press the Front switch 10 times (On Winnebago units, press FRONT 5 times).
3. Press the Rear switch 10 times (On Winnebago units, press REAR 5 times).
4. At this point, a tone will sound and the display will read ZERO POINT CALIBRATION.
5. Press ENTER to set the zero point.
6. Screen will then display Zero Point Stability Check and PLEASE WAIT.
7. Tone will sound and the screen will display ZERO POINT SUCCESSFUL.
8. Control will then turn off.

I plan on doing this AGAIN when I get a chance. I am hoping the AUTO LEVEL feature will work spot on afterward. AND now that I re-read the instructions, I have been doing the MANUAL leveling wrong..from the guide:

1. Push ON/OFF button on control panel. The system is now operational and the ON/OFF light will be lit.
2. Push DOWN ARROW to display MANUAL LEVEL on the screen. Push ENTER to set.
3. Push FRONT button until jacks contact the ground and lift the front of the coach 1-2 inches.
4. Push REAR button until jacks contact the ground and lift rear of coach. Keep button depressed until
level indicator displays level.
5. Push LEFT or RIGHT button. If level indicator is toward left of coach, push RIGHT button. If level
indicator is toward right of coach push LEFT button. Keep button depressed until level indicator
displays level.
Note: The right and left jacks are used to level the coach side to side. Pushing the LEFT button on the
control panel will extend both left jacks. Pushing the RIGHT button on the control panel will extend
both right jacks. Jacks always work in pairs, both front jacks; both right side jacks, etc.
6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 if needed.
7. Turn power off to leveling system by pushing ON/OFF button.
8. Visually inspect all jacks to ensure all shoes are touching the ground. Should one of the rear jack
shoes not be touching the ground, press the corresponding LEFT or RIGHT button to lower the noncompliant
jack to the ground.

I should have put the FRONT down BEFORE the back..learning as I go....

I manually level, the auto feature does some weird things. Also, I have had my front wheels off the ground. Never been an issue and I have yet to have anyone tell me why it's an issue. I have a gas coach, maybe it's an issue on DP's for braking reasons.

I have bigfoot and I use manual retract instead of auto retract.

My suggestion is to read the Manual for you jacks for proper operation. Not all Jacking Systems are the same. I have the Equalizer System on my DP and I am sure your system is not the same operation, as DP's have air bags that figure in leveling the Coach.
I would never recommend leaving your front wheels off the ground as it is hard on the front suspension.

If the site is that much unlevel I would request a different site, JMO.

The manual that came with the Motorhome is useless as it is generic for all Thor motorhomes (Class A, C and B). I will have to see if I got a separate manual for the jack system.
