E 450 V 10 MPG

:B Only way to get double digit MPG is. Going down hill in neutral with a tail wind. Oh and a REAL sharp pencil.

Got 10 MPG once in the Flat Lands of IL. with the wind at my back. When the speed limit was 55.

5200 miles. Averaging 8-8.4 driving 65-67 no toad. 7.5-8 driving 62-65 pulling an 07 Jeep GC roughly #4700.

I have a fleetwood tioga 25g it is 26 feet

it is the e450....4.56 rear end v10 8.5 mpg at 55 mph

"if" you get an e350 you get a 4.10 rear end and a v8 (5.4) you might get better mileage.

as long as that engine stays together I will live with the fuel mileage.

You got that right "Jim"...:B Someone MIGHT break 10 MPG but its not going to be a constant.

You are about average and it will not get any better. There is a running myth in some Ford circles that the Ford V-10 improves mpg and "wakes up" (whatever that supposed to mean) after a break in period but it's total nonsense. What you will find is that around 1900-2000 rpm's is the sweet spot, depending on rear gear, for MPG's and responsiveness.

8.2 mpg over 30,000 miles. Best fill-up 11.8 (big tailwind run) worst in the low 5's (climbing passes or fighting headwinds), but individual fillup mpgs are not particularly reliable.

7000 mile average is a pretty good base for expectations. You aren't going to get into the extremes unless you get those driving conditons. My several tankfuls over 10 MPG all involve running at highway speed with 10-20 mph tailwinds all day, you get those conditions on the plains. But then it comes back as a headwind that gets you struggling to maintain 55 mph in overdrive, or a crosswind that keeps you off the road for a day.

10-12 mpg is believable to me for someone in a 8000 pound B+ with 75-80% of the frontal area and a more aerodynamic cap. An E-250/350 based B getting 12-14 MPG is also believable, my E-350 van has averaged 15 MPG over 8000 miles, gets 16+ routinely on the highway, has done as well as 18 MPG cruising 50-55 mph on rural roads.

It might get better as you learn how to make it better. Don't know what babying means to you, but if it means you never drive over 55 mph you should be doing better than 7.6 if your roads are all flat and you down have any towns to slow for, or stop and go.

Average around 9mpg give or take....sometimes hard to get an accurate number if I have been running the generator which will use a few gallons over a weekend of camping.

We get around 9.5 to 10.5 MPG cruising at 55-58 MPH with our E450 on only a 24 foot motorhome.

I run oversize tires to help get this mileage. Tires with a larger diameter lower the overall E450's gearing ratio so that overdrive is more effective (and we also gain some added ground clearance).

In the last 32,700 miles we have averaged 8.5 Miles per USG over all. There is a bit of generator fuel in there but not much. So, at best 9.0 MPG. Also, most of that is pulling a 3200# toad. So its not too bad.

If you calculate city at 6 mpg and freeways at 9 mpg average, speed is between 55 mph and about 65 mph, on a 55 gallon tank you will see about 350 to 400 miles of travell depending on terrain and wind direction.

You have to remember that you have a big frontal dam in front and it takes fuel to move forward at speed, the higher the speed the more energy that the engine has to produce to move the RV and that translates to higher gas consumption.
