Early units with bunks

I currently own a 24'born free and am thinking of changing to a class A for an extended trip(approximately 8 months).

I am trying to find out when bunks became a widespread option. I still want to keep the large bed in the rear, but I like the units with the bunks in the side.
Unfortunately I really need to stay at as low of price point as possible so I need to go older. I have seen several units that were 2007, I was just wondering if there were any class A's built earlier with bunks? If anyone wants to include models to be on the look out for that would be great.
I also really like the overhead bed above the front seats, but I believe this is something relatively new?
I have seen a couple Thor products that have both and are pretty new, but from what I have read here I think I will stay away from Thor for now.
Thanks for any help
  • I was going to suggest you look at 2007 Winnie Sightseer or Itasca Sunova 35J modelss, or the Hurricane had a similar floorplan that year too i think 34B. Also Damon in the Challenger. But then I see you are looking for earlier than that. I first became aware of bunk models in 2007 so not sure if they were available before then. Good much with the search.

What's old is new, what's new is old. While bunks have never really been "common" or widespread, they HAVE been available in at least a floorplan or 2 from most manufacturers for many years, both class C and class A. My brother's 1986 Tioga class C had bunks, as did my neice's +/-2010 Fleetwood class A.

And while overhead bunks (in a class A) are considered a relatively new option, that is not really the case either. Nearly all of the really early class A's had drop down bunks over the cab area; my grandfather's class A had one in the early 70's. They kinda fell out of favor by the 90's, but now seem to be making a comeback.
