Electric Water Heater Failure

Just today my Atwood electric water heater won't make hot water. It is approximately 12-13 years old and no trouble until now. I checked the circuit breaker and it is not "thrown" and the light in the wall switch that controls the heater is working. Where do I start trouble shooting and looking for the problem? Would like to fix this myself if possible prior to taking it to a dealer. I should note that the gas side of the heater works and heats the water, which is what I am doing now.
  • Most likely the element. I would replace it at this point without even doing any troubleshooting due to it's age. It can be purchased for around $30 including shipping and you will need a 1 1/2" socket to do the job. Don't even think of using an adjustable wrench - that baby is in there tight and needs to go back in tight. The new element will also come with a new gasket.
  • Did you try the heater element? I've replaced them several times on a home water heater.
