Electrical Question on class C

This is a 2002 Coachmen Pathfinder, 29 foot.

I've been reading about batteries and charging and smart vs. dumb chargers/converters and i'm trying to figure out what I have. I can't even FIND a charger/converter though I know that there has to be something somewhere.

First question, in the second picture, what is all that circuitry stuff to the left of the battery (sorry it's upside down)?

If there is no converter near the panel or near the battery, where else should I look?

  • Just took it all apart and I don't see anything "behind the circuit breakers and below the transfer switch".

I've seen replacement videos on youtube that has a pretty large converter below the circuit panel, but there is nothing below mine.
  • Do I also see a pair of windshield wiper blades in the first picture?
  • The converter is behind the wiring and fuses (right side) of the bottom photo. I replaced mine with a Progressive Dynamics PD4645 upgrade kit. It has the smart charge wizard. The kit fits very nicely. I unsoldered some of the wires as they were not very long and didn't want to just cut them and make them shorter.

In the second picture to the right of the battery....that circuitry (I believe) is the isolator that prevents electrical use in the house part from draining charge from the chassis (engine) battery. It also has the relay that allows the engine alternator to charge up the house batteries when you are driving. It may also have a relay that allows you to use the house battery to start the engine if the engine battery is dead. Very handy feature.

Other more knowledgeable persons may have a better explanation or corrections.
  • The converter is behind the circuit breakers and below the transfer switch. You should upgrade converter section.
The items next to the batteries are circuit breakers for various functions. look like they need a little care. The redish spray does keep some moisture out, but not as good as electrical de-oxidation compound.
  • I was pretty sure of that... I just don't know where/what it is. Or what to replace...
  • Sorry to say, you have a dumb charger and the voltage will be a constant 13.6VDC.
