Empty Nesters

We plan on taking the plunge in the next month or so. Our current TT has been well used as a family rv, but now the nest is empty and no need for double bunks.

This will be our 1st motorhome. We have been shopping for over a year, but the ones we like are out of the price range, and we just can't find a good quality used at a used price.

My question is this. Have any on the forum moved from TT + family to Empty Nesters with Class C and kept the C long term (say 5-10 yrs)?

If you bought and regretted due to size, etc., chime in too.

Thanks.

  • We were empty nesters when we sold our pop-up camper and bought a Class C rig 7 years ago.
It was a pretty steep learning curve the first year.

I researched that purchase for a few years before buying the used unit. We have really enjoyed our motorhome and think it was a great decision.

We began a snowbird career last winter and now have an increased desire to move into a Class A motorhome. But the finances are not there yet so we'll hang on to what we have for several more years and enjoy every minute of it.
  • LOL...Terryallen

My daughter has that problem with her grown kids.
We think they are on a bungee cord sometimes.

We stay at least 2 states away most of the time.

    You sure nailed it.
  • Define empty nest. Where did they go? reason I ask. Unless they moved WAAAY far away. They will be back. Our children moved out, We got a TT just perfect for 2. Guess what. Every time the TT left the yard. They followed it. Once we didn't even tell them where we were going, Just gave the phone # to the CG. Woke up next morning. All of them were sitting on the picnic table waiting for us to get up.

So. Don't count you trips alone too fast. They always come back, and BRING FRIENDS. Just sayin
  • We were in similar situation in '09. Daughter had moved off to college and son was junior in high school. So, we were almost empty nesters. We had a 5'er that I would tow and DW would tow boat with our Durango. In previous years we would have 2 or 3 kids with each of us. That summer, we found ourselves in vehicle alone once or twice. So, we traded 5'er/truck for our MH. The kids have still camped with us maybe 20% of the time so we went with a larger class C. Now, we are thinking of downsizing to a 22' - 24' in a year or two.

I think the 5'er was perfect when kids (and friends) camped with us...now, the MH is perfect :)
  • You will like moving up to a Class C, check Adhuntr.com for a consolidated listing of all the Craigslist offerings in used RV's. If there is a certain brand you're leaning towards, then include that brand in your request. I'd recommend that you stick with a used high end models, they are just better built and have more features. Chinook and Coach House Class C's come to mind, but there are several other fine units too.
