May I ask why you posted the exact same question three weeks ago on another forum. Of course I am assuming that susieq2013 on the other forum is you

"as we were driving our Endeavor (1999) home yesterday, an orange light on the dash lit up and said "Engine Pilot" and then the engine quit. We were able to start it again, and it didn't repeat.

sure glad to find this message board

Ok now we're stopped and we smell hot might be the brakes sorry about the short notes I'm on my phone. The light specifically says engine pilot

So are you continuing with the light on or did it go off?
  • Just thought of something else...you said you "smelled hot" like the brakes. Did you check to ensure you weren't losing coolant. Coolant on the exhaust could smell similar to brakes. I'm guessing you're overheating. Find a safe place to stop and find out what's wrong before continuing. Safety should come first.....Dennis
  • Going down a mountain with hot brakes is not a good idea...IMHO....are you using your exhaust brake or your service brakes? Your brakes should not overheat if you're driving properly. Use the exhaust brake for most of your braking power and use your service brakes periodically to slow you further. Use a stabbing effect with the service brakes to maintain your speed but the exhaust brake should be you primary holding power. Are you sure the light didn't say "Engine Hot"??...Dennis
  • It's a freightliner chassis. Just thought this dash light might be a common one but i guess not. I google engine pilot and get info on Honda pilot cars we're going again the brake was hot
  • Ok now we're stopped and we smell hot might be the brakes sorry about the short notes I'm on my phone. The light specifically says engine pilot
  • Sorry, we will need a lot more information to be of assistance:

What engine? The more details on exactly what happened the better.

Assume by "pilot light" you mean "check engine light" or some such wording.
