- GoldencrazyExplorerYou know I understand you may be put off that your issues didn't seem normal and you might be playing with them. There have been folks who have done that. You admit that you read the light wrong so it was strange Now you might have been too busy to update the forum but when you were in trouble you didn't expect people to be too busy so perhaps your expectations are adverse to a society like this and you would be better off not posting. Good luck with your repairs.
- FlamebusterExplorerIt could be while pulling the hill the engine overheated and shut down to protect the engine from serious damage and you from very large repair bills. That may also be what you were smelling was the hot engine..Just trying to offer possible reasons..The engine protection system can monitor many functions..Even low coolant levels in the reservoir can cause a shutdown...
Learning more about the motorhome is a good idea, some vehicles have a temporary delay button you push to give you a few more seconds of engine operation to get to a safe spot to stop... - deltamasterExplorerWoa... SuzzeeeQ
Don't go away! Do not let this spoil your fun here. It will all work out!
A real quick google search reveals that is the engine protection indicator. It means something is going on that the computer is attempting to protect the engine. It could be low fluids somewhere or it could be ignition wiring.
Did you mention something about having oil all over the chassis underneath the rig once? - SuzzeeeQ2012Explorerlove the attitude here of some people. SMH
We are busy and as I said before, I don't live on the internet.
Yes, we figured it out.
it said Engine Prot NOT pilot. I read it wrong. The light flashed after we climbed the Grapevine on I-5 and then the engine quit. We are talking to a friend of ours who is a diesel mechanic and are getting help.
all better.
if you can tell, I have been posting here for a while. You all seem to feel I'm a troll, so I'll leave. - deltamasterExplorer

I wonder if the OP got everything fixed/repaired?
I suspect we may never know. - msmith1199Explorer IIWhat came first the engine dying or the light coming on? If then engine died first then dash lights normally come on while the key is still on and the engine isn't running.

It's a freightliner chassis. Just thought this dash light might be a common one but i guess not. I google engine pilot and get info on Honda pilot cars we're going again the brake was hot
Freightliner provided the dash guages and probably the warning lights regarding the engine. The Freightliner Help Desk can tell you what this light means. When you call, you will need the last 6 digits of your VIN number (in the driver's corner of the windshield or on the rear radiator). Their phone number is 1 800 385 4357. The help desk is a free service, and they really know their product.
Fred - deltamasterExplorerLets see if we understand this correctly... you are traveling and a light on the dash came on and the engine died.
You inspected the rig and found oil all over? Or was that back at the garage when they inspected the brakes?
Have you taken a look under the hood or under the engine compartment yet right now? If not then do so. Let us know what you see. Hold your hand about two inches away from the wheels and tell us if they feel hot/warm. DO NOT touch the wheels... just check for heat. - Mr_Mark1ExplorerSuzzeeeQ, sometimes when the information comes in slow and in bits, it's easy think it's a troll posting odd information.
Now that we know that are for real, I hope that someone with a similar unit will pop in and give the information that you need.
I, too, have never seen a 'Engine Pilot' light but that surely doesn't mean that they don't exist.
When a light comes on, it will leave a code in the memory of the engine computer. Even though the light goes out, there still could be a problem but if it was super serious, I think there is another light that says 'Stop Engine'.
Usually the yellow lights are more of a caution light but if it's a red color light, it's more serious.
Let us know if you have it checked out and what the problem entailed.
Good luck,
MM.
