Exhaust fan on Microwave/convection oven ??

I have a GE Profile Spacemaker Microwave and Convection oven. Across the bottom it has exhaust vents for the 3 burner stove. What I don't understand is, the exhaust is vented out thru vents in the top of the microwave, right back into the motorhome. In other words, it sucks up the fumes in the bottom and exhaust them out thru the top. What the heck good does this do? Anyone else have this kind of set up?

  • Yes it can be vented inside or out. Most?many are not vented to the outside. There are mesh filters that remove the grease from the air and return the air to the room so , that's the purpose your asking about. BTW you should be removing and cleaning those filters regularly
  • The micro wave inside vent probably has removeable filters. These need to be removed and cleaned periodically depending on use.
  • Many site built homes are this way that are constructed today. Mostly cooking food just vents out moisture anyway.
  • The Microwaves are designed to be vented INSIDE or OUTSIDE. If you want to vent outside, you get the plastic outside Vent assbly common to all regular RV vent hoods and cut the hole to the outside. You then must remount the M/W motor assbly to blow OUT instead on IN. Be advised that most OEM's, if under OEM warranty, that will VOID the warranty on that sidewall for the duration of the sidewall warranty. Any modification done to the integrity of a sidewall without approval by the OEM voids that part of the warranty. If out of warranty, then no big deal. Doug
  • My microwave was set up exactly the same way. I bought a few cheap parts to vent it outside through a hole I cut in the sidewall and covered with a grill. Now all fumes and heat go outside where they belong. Check to see if your microwave can be vented out the back.
