Feedback Needed - 2000 Winnebago Adventure 35 Brake Repairs

Wondering if any of you can tell me if I'm getting ripped off or not. According to the shop I use (and trust), I was told my master cylinder (some hydro thing), all roters (lots of blueing), all pads & two calipers are bad. Bought the RV used with 49,000 and it sat for a while. Brakes went out while driving. Added fluid & no change. I'm quoted $2,500 for the repairs.

Am I getting snowed or what? 10 hours labor for the master cylinder/hydro thing alone.

Thanks for your feedback.
  • Check NAPA for the prices for pads and calipers, and rotors. As I recall they're relatively insepensive. Calipers with pads around $120.00 each. Front rotors are about $75.00 each, and rear rotors are about the same price.

So If you need all 4 calipers and pads you're talking around $500.00. All 4 rotors should cost another $300.00. Add another $100.00 for hardware and fluid and the total cost for parts is about $900.00. Labor would be about 2 hrs per wheel. At $100.00 per hour the total cost is around $1,700.00. That's assuming you use rebuilt calipers and standard pads. If they're using new calipers and premium pads repacking the front wheels, and replacing all the wheel seals the price is about right.
  • I would think if you did it yourself and bought all new quality parts (instead of turning the rotors), the parts along would run about $1000. If you have them do it and they flush the lines and put new fluid in, it will be a whole new braking system. 10 hours to change the master cylinder and power booster seems excessive but overall I would estimate the total project to take a good 10 hours. I've done autos without the master cylinder in 4-6 hours. But hey, it is a big truck and old enough that things don't go as quick as you plan.
