Fleetwood draining on window issue

We have an issue with the Storm someone might be able to help with or give us guidance. There is a spout (using spout for a lack of a better word) located on each side of the coach over the front side windows. Now the issue… the air conditioner drains out the passenger side drain and directly onto the passenger window and down the side of the coach. When this accrues the drainage causes spotting and etching (like very bad water spots) on the passenger side window under this drain. We called Fleetwood last week and they did not address the drainage issue at all but put us on hold and came back sometime later and said to use vinegar to remove the etching/staining. We used Windex with Vinegar, a strong mix of vinegar and water, CLR, etc., and nothing removes this etching.

I cannot believe that Fleetwood would design the Roof AC to drain directly onto a window and side of the coach but that this must be a design flaw. I am not an engineer but would think the AC would be designed to drain out the bottom of the coach like it does on a car.

What can be done to remedy this issue and get the etching off of the window and side of the coach? All this mess and only a 3 month old coach…

I sent Generals RV’s Service adviser in Dover, FL (where we have been taking the RV and his reply: The gutter spouts are designed to keep the water away from the coach. I wonder why they are not doing that. If vinegar is not working on getting the windows cleaned, I have had to use a razor blade to get the film off. Be very careful, as the window can be scratched. I don’t know the answer to why, maybe the sealant is not full behind the gutter and it is dripping down the sidewall. Yes unfortunately they are designed to drain on the roof. There is no fix to that. I have seen people make dams, and paths using roof sealant, it works ok, but very cosmetically unappealing.

Bottom line is that I just cannot believe that Fleetwood would design the AC to drain so it permanently etches the window and side of the unit. Well this will make me check off Fleetwood (any REV Group products) for the list for our next coach.

Since we are new (3 months now) to this RV joy I am reaching out for any suggestions!!!
  • Yep - 00 Steel Wool
That's what I use on all my car & RV windows just to make sure all the road gunk is taken off. Add a little RainX to the final cleaning.
  • To clean the window you can use very fine steel wool. Works good. Also as suggested raise the Front slightly, and put gutter extension on as shown in a picture. (Available at Walmart for about $8.) Also other things you can do extend with clothes pins, and or in addition to, fasten string to downspouts and extend string out to a can or stake on the ground. Water will run down the string.
  • 1. MOST RV's drain off the roof
    2. If you search, you can find a LONGER drain spout that will channel the water farther out and not down the side. Some RV'ers use a clothes pin but that is unsightly. Doug
  • "donfons".....You need to understand that your A/C was not designed to drain over that particular window. It's draining there because your coach is leaning that way. On your coach, the A/C just drains onto the roof and either evaporates or the excess runs off the LOWEST corner of your coach. (On more expensive coaches, they actually install a drain line that runs through the roof and down a wall to the ground.)

If you lift the front of your coach an inch with the jacks, the water will run off somewhere else. The drain extension pictured above will help, but even the slightest breeze will still blow the water onto the coach. In situations where you know you'll be using the A/C and there will be lot of condensation, you need to make sure the coach has a slight lean to the back. The condensation running off is no different than rain water running off....it's going to run to the lowest point.

I had a similar problem with my 5th wheel draining from the roof down on my rear window.. I installed a long 1-inch angle aluminum strip across the rear of the roof to direct the runoff to the side rain gutter,,,

I just stuck the aluminum strip to the roof using DICOR

    Worked out great for me...

Maybe you can direct your water flow the same way...

In your case they do make longer rain gutter extentions (AMAZON) that just snaps into the same place...
